10 things to do before Your Boudoir Photoshoot
Getting ready for a boudoir photoshoot can feel both exciting and a little nerve wracking, but it’s really an experience meant to celebrate you, not make you feel anxious! Whether this is your first time or you’re already familiar with the process, preparation is always key to feeling confident, comfortable, and ready for your session. To help ease those pre session jitters, I’ve put together a list of 10 things to do before your boudoir photoshoot that will have you walking into your session feeling empowered, and ready to rock your photoshoot! Let’s get started on making your experience as fun and relaxed as possible!
Below are 10 things you should do before your boudoir photoshoot:
1. Communicate with your photographer. Discuss your vision, preferences, and any concerns you may have before the shoot to ensure you’re both on the same page. I always send a questionnaire so I can get to know you a little better, after our initial conversation.
2. Choose your outfits. Select lingerie or outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. Consider bringing a variety of options to the shoot. Not everything shoots as nicely as you may think. Options are good. Having said that, I do have pieces that we can use if we’re inspired. Stay tuned to my blogs as I will be starting a series about what to wear and where to get it.
3. Prepare your skin. Moisturize your skin the night before to ensure it looks healthy and glowing. Avoid any harsh treatments or exfoliation that could cause irritation.
4. Stay Hydrated. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the shoot to keep your skin looking its best.
5. Get a good night’s sleep. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep the night before to help reduce any signs of tiredness.
6. Practice posing. Spend some time practicing different poses and facial expressions in front of a mirror, to see what looks best for your body type. I have another post coming up with suggestions.
7. Grooming. Take care of any grooming needs such as waxing, shaving or even getting a haircut at least 3 days before the shoot.
7a. Coloring your hair. If you need to, do it at least a week before your shoot, so the color doesn’t transfer to your skin, clothing, bedding or walls.
8. Pack your essentials. Bring any props, accessories, or special items you want to include in the photoshoot. I do not have shoes to loan, if you have shoes you’d like to wear, make sure they’re in your bag. If you don’t have shoes to match your outfits, barefoot is absolutely fine as well. This IS boudoir photography after all!
9. Stretching. Make sure you start a stretching routine the week of your photoshoot. Some clients have found muscles the next day they didn’t realize they had! You can also get deeper into poses if your muscles are more supple and stretched. If you can’t do it all week, at least do it the morning of your photoshoot.
10. Eat a balanced meal. Fuel your body with a nutritious meal before the shoot to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. Protein is always a good source of energy, and you will definitely need it!
Remember, the most important thing is to feel confident and comfortable in your own skin. Taking time to prepare yourself, is time well spent. If you are going to go through with a boudoir photoshoot, I encourage you to do the extra little things that will help you feel your most confident!
